Tina Traverse fell in love with writing at the age of eight when she wrote her version of the bible story, The Good Samaritan, for a homework assignment.
This love grew into a passionate affair and has been ongoing for thirty years; and there are no signs of it waning.
Tina’s desire to write came calling once again when she needed to find a way to cope with heartbreaking news.
Christian was diagnosed with autism in 2010. Her method of coping was to write a story about his journey called
Forever, Christian. Tina likes to joke that a girl can only write about real life for
so long without jumping back into the world of make believe. She loves to venture into the world of the supernatural; vampires
and witches are her favourite! Tina enjoys all sorts of vampires but admits that she is
fascinated with the modern romantic vampire (think Twilight and The Vampire
Diaries). She is currently working on a vampire series based on her first published book, Destiny of The Vampire and has other projects in the works.
When Tina is not at the computer creating her exciting, magical worlds, she is kept on her toes by her two sons, Christian and Brandon.
Sometimes the author manages to curl up in her favourite chair with a good book.
1) What do you do for fun?
For fun, I enjoy slipping on my headphones and taking
a long walk outside. The fresh air and smell of the sea is relaxing and
calming. I also like watching movies with my family.
2) When did you first start writing?
I was in third grade when I had to do a writing
assignment. I wrote my own version of the Good Samaritan story of the bible. I
enjoyed it so much that I kept writing. It also didn’t hurt to get good reviews from my teacher and
classmates!
3) Why did you write this book?
Scarlet Desire: Covet is the first of a three part
series that was born from the ashes of another series. Destiny of the Vampire
was my first series, Book one being my first published novel. Book 2, 3 and 4
were completed and on the road to be published when I decided to scrap them and
start from scratch. Some people thought I was crazy, but the reason for doing
so made sense to me. When it was said and done, Destiny of The Vampire’s story didn’t work. That’s why I started over. Scarlet
Desire takes the same characters from DOTV and fleshes them out, creating more
intriguing characters and storylines.
4) What is the best advice you ever received?
The best advice I received was to always write in my
own voice, to write what interests me, not just what’s popular because a reader can tell if a story is
forced.
5) How long did it take to write?
Sixteen months. Scarlet Desire:Covet went through many
drafts until it felt right.
